Since 2003 (with accreditation granted in 2010), Future Generations Graduate School has offered a Master’s Degree in Applied Community Change, now with concentrations in PeaceBuilding and Conservation. The Graduate School grew from the earlier field-based ork of Future Generations (www.future.org), which works in six countries (Afghanistan, China, Haiti, India, Peru, and U.S.A.) to advance an empowerment-based process for community change. The field work and innovations of future.org as well as the experiences of alumni continue to inform and inspire Graduate School curriculum.
The Graduate School, based in rural West Virginia, advances a new model for higher education that blends online learning, meet-ups with peers and faculty in four countries, and applied practica in communities. Dean, Mike Rechlin, leads the Graduate School with more than 30 years experience in the practice of community forestry, natural resource management, and academic leadership.
